As a result of this post, I searched FB for the ancestral town of my gr-gr-grandparents (born in 1837 & 1844), and found a wonderful community of helpful people! Now I have birth certificates for both of these ancestors - and translations for the documents - which give me information for the next generation back, which is mostly new to me! I've used FB for doing DNA...What a great idea! I've used FB for doing DNA match research with a decent amount of success. But, your idea of finding groups for the ancestral towns is something that I haven't done. This might be just the ticket to finding a photo of the paternal grandparents I was robbed of.
