If all the U.S. documents say only Naples, then your mission is to figure out which part of the city. You need to narrow it down, and then if the records aren't online, you can hire someone there to look for his records (I have a contact in Naples.) As for Castellammare del Golfo, most later records are not available online, so you may need someone there to request records for you.DiAnn Iamarino Ohamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17415937464194290775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6078973036927209827.post-90991973788579915082023-10-15T11:41:19.304-04:002023-10-15T11:41:19.304-04:00Thanks for sharing your thought process; it's ...Thanks for sharing your thought process; it's very helpful. I have many, many documents accumulated from the US, including an 1896 ship manifest where my great-grandfather only wrote Naples. Ditto on his marriage, naturalization, census, draft cards, etc. Same for all his brothers that emigrated too. His original documents were lost in Hurricane Sandy (not in my possession). Advice? I'm getting on a family Zoom call tonight to see if the eldest of his grandchildren, including my mother, can recall any town he mentioned or remember seeing a trinket from there. Antenati and FamilySearch have uploaded birth records for just a few of the 92 towns and cities within the province of Naples and I've scanned those digital books, but haven't found him yet. Any advice?

On the Sicilian side, I inherited an ash tray and a plate from my paternal grandmother from Castellammare del Golfo and we were told the stories about their emigration all our lives. I also inherited a treasure trove of original document from her, both from the US and CmG. On Antenati I found my great-grandfather's CmG birth and marriage certificates, but no death certificate because he was a retornati (went back and forth) and his trail goes cold in US after he filled out a WWI draft card. My grandfather was age 5. I know they all went back to CmG and my grandfather returned to the US and lived with his grandmother in NYC according to a 1930 census; he was 17. I don't know what happened to his parents. I plan to visit CmG, Sicily next year to help fill in the blanks. Any advice? Grazie mille.
