Updated on 30 May 2022. Be sure to read Tip 4!
I was in a panic when the Italian genealogy website, Antenati, changed completely on November 15, 2021. But I'm here to help you cope.
First, the bad news:
- The new site does not allow us to easily save a high-resolution image of a document. But users are smart. Someone figured out an easy solution, and I will share it with you.
Here are 5 tips for using the new Antenati portal.
Tip 1: Use the Site's Improved Search Function
The homepage of the Antenati site has a slightly different URL than before: https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it. The first thing you'll see is a search form. Click the Italian flag at the top right of the page, if you like, to translate this search form to another language. I always leave it on Italian because it isn't a lot of words.
You can use this search form to quickly get to a particular town. Type the town's name in the first box (Località), click the yellow-highlighted suggestion, and click the Cerca (Search) button.
The Antenati group is always working on indexing vital records so you can search for a person. Instead of the default "Cerca nei registri" (search in the registers), choose "Cerca per nome" (search for a name). Enter a first name, last name, town, and year (click the down-arrow on those last two for more options).
I searched for my grandfather, born in Colle Sannita in 1902. Antenati has indexed the person's name, both their parents' names, and their date of birth, death, or marriage. It's pretty impressive.
You can click the view button for any search result to go to a page of text. Then click what will not appear to be a link, but is. It'll be beneath the word Atti, and when you hover your mouse over the words, for example, "Atto di nascita 10 Ottobre 1902," you can click that link. You'll find yourself on the exact page of the document you wanted.
There are 3 ways to see all the page numbers and get around the register. |
Tip 2: Find a Province, Time Period, and Town
If you prefer the old method of drilling down to your town, you can still do that. In the top menu of the website, click "Esplora gli Archivi" or Find the Archives. I don't find the map helpful, but scroll below it to see the good-old alphabetical list of provinces.
Click your province of choice to go to its landing page. You'll find two buttons:
- Cerca nei registri (Search the registries) gives you a list of all the registers for the town. You can sort these from oldest to newest, or vice versa. Click the Vedi il registro (View the register) button for any book you want. You'll now be in a register viewer, able to turn the pages of the book.
- Esplora i fondi (Explore the fonds—not a typo) is closer to the old format. I'll warn you now that you're better off with the first button to search the registries. But if you want to see the old way, click the button to see the three time periods, now displayed in alphabetical, not chronological, order:
- Stato civile italiano—the latest time period, usually from 1866 on. These are the years after Italy became a unified republic.
- Stato civile napoleonico—the earliest time period, usually from 1809 through 1815. These are the years when Napoleon was in charge.
- Stato civile della restaurazione—the middle time period, usually from 1816 through 1865. These are the years after Napoleon, but before Italy became one country.
- Click a time period, then choose your town. And whaddaya know? You're right back where you were when you clicked Cerca nei registri. That was a waste of time. So maybe the new site helps us get where we want to go faster.
Tip 3: See Thumbnails or Pick a Page to View
At first glance, it seems as if you can only page your way through a register one image at a time. If that's the case, imagine paging through a 100-page book to get to the index pages.
Luckily, there are several other ways to get around. Start by looking at any page of a register. Then:
- Method 1: Click the icon to the top right of the viewing area that's meant to look like a window. Change your view from Singolo to Galleria.
- Method 2: Same as above, click the icon at the top right, but this time, click Right. (Why is that in English?) Now you have a scrollable list on the right with all the page numbers. You can click any one of them.
- Method 3: Click the hamburger menu the 3 stacked horizontal lines). Then click the third icon down that looks like five stacked lines of different lengths. Now you can see a list of all the page numbers. Or you can choose to see them as thumbnails.
Click any page number to go where you want to go.
Tip 4: Saving a Record's URL and High-Res Image
This section is new as of 30 May 2022.
The Antenati site no longer gives us a button to download a high resolution image of the document we want. But here's a solution for you.
Start by going to the page you want within any register book. As you click from page to page, you should notice that the last section of the URL (after the last slash) in the address bar of your web browser changes with each page. Copy that last section and paste it into this template URL that you will keep in a safe place, replacing only the word TARGET:
https://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/TARGET/full/full/0/default.jpg
For example, I'm looking at a document and the URL ends in 5K6QgbP. If I paste that into my template URL, replacing the word TARGET, I get https://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/5K6QgbP/full/full/0/default.jpg. If you click that link you'll see the document all by itself. You can click the image to enlarge it. And you can right-click and save that wonderful high-resolution image.
This may seem like a pain, but wow is it easier than the method I was using!
Hang in there, my Italian researchers. The Antenati site was never the easiest in the world anyway. I've heard that some towns now have more recent documents than they did before. Today I learned that my uncle's town is finally online, and I can expand his family tree!
Be sure to also read How to Make the Best of the New Antenati Website.
I don't understand. I actually have in my possession the Atto di Nascita for my great-grandmother born in Santa Lucia della Mela and, yet when I search as instructed from this blog, no info is available for the year of her birth 1870.
ReplyDeleteCarol, how did you get your copy of the certificate? Some of the towns' documents on this site are far from complete. I have my fingers crossed that they will add more documents, as well as more towns.
DeleteAgree.
DeleteHow many gigabytes are in these downloads? Don't you still have to search through the images and indices once you have completed the download(s)? I don't see how this is any easier than viewing online and downloading selected images. It would be quicker with the files on your hard drive, but a what cost?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to limit your search to a few people, sure, you can gather the documents one at a time. But if you download batches of documents, you can find all the children of your ancestor, and their marriages, and their children, and so on. I bought a 1 terabyte external drive as a backup. I've downloaded 4 full towns. I've barely made a dent in the terabyte.
DeleteI am addressing the question above that Joe asked. How does using this program help make using Atenati easier (I do realize it's faster)? Am I misunderstanding something here? Thank you.
DeleteHi, Sandra. The Antenati website is notoriously slow and sometimes goes offline for a while (although I haven't seen that happen lately). If you're looking at a small town, you're going to be related to everyone. Going through the images one-by-one online is like a death sentence.
DeleteDo you use this technique to download records at the Family History Center that may only be viewable at the FHC. If so, I understand why you would do this.
ReplyDeleteI have not done that, simply because it hasn't applied to me yet. But I may try it next week!
DeleteMy grandmother was born in Raveo, in Udine. The records are not on the site, nor are the records of Enemonzo, where they moved and siblings were born. It will be great when more of these records are available.
ReplyDeleteFor the Antenati website, be sure to check their News page every month or two for new records: http://antenati.san.beniculturali.it/elenco-news. Familysearch.org has Udine. You can search or browse: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1939238
DeleteIt looks like they have Enemonzo, too. Start here and pick a time span: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=1287602&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Italy%2C%20Udine%2C%20Enemonzo%22&subjectsOpen=1287601-50
I was so excited to see this information, thank you for sharing! I have a question though, i found my ancestors town but the records start in 1901 via the Antenati website (Chieti). Where do i find the 1800's info as my Italian ancestors were all born in the late 1800's?
ReplyDeleteI have the problem of missing years, too, and it breaks my heart. You can try a Catalog search for your town on FamilySearch.org.
DeleteAdditional records for Chieti were posted within the last week or so.
DeleteAny suggestions for using this app on a MAC? I have tried to download it, but the app gets hung up when I try to enter in the folder I have created to save the images from the Italian archives website.
ReplyDeleteHi, Phoebe. I went to the site where you can download the app. The page is in Portuguese, but my browser gave me the option to translate it. It says if you're using a Mac and have problems, see the instructions at https://java.com/pt_BR/download/help/mac_java_update.xml. That page tells you how to update Java in the Java Control Panel. I hope that does it for you!
DeleteThanks for your quick reply! I just get the spinning wheel of death when I try to add in the location of where I want to save the downloaded images. My Java is up to date! Sadly, I can not figure out how to get this app to work on my MAC. If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know!
DeletePhoebe -- I had the same problem yesterday. When I created a (Mac) folder for the images to download to, I couldn't remember exactly what time frame I was on, so I made a temporary folder name. After the downloads were complete, I corrected the folder name. When I tried to download the next file, I got the spinning wheel every time I tried -- changed the folder name back to the temp name and then it worked fine. Makes no sense to me, but it worked. Did you make any name or location changes?
DeleteI must be completely missing something. The app is an .exe, which means windows only. It does not look like it is possible to use this on my Mac. When I clicked on the .exe, I got the response I was expecting, which is that this is not a Mac application and cannot be run. What am I missing?
DeleteNannygoat, there's a comment about this above: The page is in Portuguese, but my browser gave me the option to translate it. It says if you're using a Mac and have problems, see the instructions at https://java.com/pt_BR/download/help/mac_java_update.xml. That page tells you how to update Java in the Java Control Panel.
DeleteHello DiAnn, thank you for the great information you have shared! You mention trying a catalog search in Family Search for missing years on Antenati. I did try, but the message tells me I have to either sign in as LDS memeber (I did sign onto the website as a member of the site, but am not a member of the mormon church), or obtain records from a family history center. Am I doing something wrong? I see the records listed, but I can't get to them. Thanks for your help.
ReplyDeleteToni that does mean an LDS church member, not a Family Search member. You can view those records at your nearest Family History Center.
ReplyDeleteDo you download three files at once while still directing them to three different folders on your computer? How?
ReplyDeleteThe number of files you're downloading at once is an efficiency setting. Your computer can multi-thread -- that's like multi-tasking. I found 3 at a time to be most efficient for me. But directing the 3 to different folders? I don't know how you can do that.
DeleteSo when you say you download three files at once, you're talking about three images within a folder. I was mistaken -- I thought "folder" when I read "file." So I thought you were downloading three folders of images at one time. I understand now. Thanks!
DeleteWonderful advice - many thanks - will try this to find the Memmolo family from Benevento, Taurasi and Mirabella-Eclano.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks DiAnn and thank you for the updates - I had given up using this site but will try again in my search for Biagio Memmolo (1876-) and his brothers from Taurasi, Mirabella-Eclano and Benevento.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link for Mirabella Eclano records starting in 1866. http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Avellino/Stato+civile+italiano/Mirabella+Eclano/
DeleteHere is Taurasi. http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Avellino/Stato+civile+italiano/Taurasi/
DeleteFinally, the city of Benevento is here. http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Benevento/Stato+civile+italiano/Benevento/
DeleteThank you so much for this tip. I've downloaded 20 years' worth of death records and I'm still going.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! It's just a dream come true.
DeleteI so want to try this but I am having a problem. When I go to install the GetLinks app, it stresses that I must have Java Runtime Enviroment on my system. I currently run Windows 10 with Firefox 61.0.1 (64 bit)and there does not appear to be support for the Java program. I have also tried Windows Edge browser with the same problem. So - does anyone know of another browser that runs on Window 10 and supports the Java Runtime Environment?
ReplyDeleteGoogle Chrome works and supports Java. I use it on Windows 10. I guess you need to use Google Chrome just to get the Java download? The GetLinks program doesn't actually get installed. You unzip the compressed file, then you run the .exe file when you need it.
DeleteDiAnn - it looks like I could easily download Java in either Firefox or Edge. But documentation regarding both browsers say they do not support it so I'm not sure what would happen and don't want to mess up my system finding out. I'll give Google Chrome a try - thanks for the quick reply.
DeleteDiann - I have installed JRE and am able to use GetLinks! What a wonderful app! Thank you so much for writing about it - and for your help in n getting me going with it.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness! Now you can know the joy of having your ancestor's entire town on your computer. Peruse each document with no lag time, and see how many relatives you can piece together.
DeleteHi DiAnn,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for finding the program and letting us all know about it. The town of San Giovanni Rotondo can only be viewed at the Family History Center via their computers. Did you have a chance to try your procedure there? Thanks John
Hi, John. I have not tried it at a Family History Center, but a friend of mine did. He brought his own laptop and used the FHC wireless connection to download the files he needed. I don't think you want to run it on the FHC computer. They might not like that.
DeleteI don't know where to start HELP
ReplyDeleteThis article tells you exactly how to find and download documents for your ancestors. But as it says at the top, you must know which town your ancestor is from. You may be able to find that on a ship manifest, naturalization papers, a passport application, or a draft registration card as well as some other documents.
DeleteHi DiAnn,
ReplyDeleteJust to update everyone… I was able to download my entire town Births, Marriages and Deaths records from 1809 to 1899 on my laptop, via the WiFi method out of the Family History Center… It works like a charm. Once again, thank you very much for showing us the way; also, to the author for writing the program. My life just got much easier with your help.
God bless you
John
That's great, John! I was using GetLinks last night when I discovered one ancestor was from a town I didn't know.
ReplyDeleteHi DiAnn,
ReplyDeletefrom the bottom of the heart I want to thank you for this article, especially for GetLink app. Some friends recommended Church Parish Register Books that were scanned and are now available on Family Search site. This app is very useful cause it allows users to download thousands of images for viewing it on computer and no need to be online.

I'm glad you found out about the GetLinks app. It's fabulous to have a whole collection of documents on your computer. The real thanks belongs to Carlos Leite who wrote the app, lets us use it for free, and updated it when I alerted him to a change in the Antenati URL.
DeleteHi really appreciate your information on the meanings of each search term on Antenati! I don't know Italian, so research is very difficult if I don't know what I'm looking at essentially. I've been able to reach as far back as 1860 so far in my findings, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI tried to run the program, but keep getting an error that the file is corrupt. Bummed.
ReplyDeleteCan you try re-downloading GetLinks after deleting your current version? Once you unzip the download and put the contents in a folder, you'll just double-click the *.exe file each time you want to run it.
DeleteMy ancestors come from Porto Ceresio, and the records should be in Varese. But every web site I have looked at says none of the Varese archives have ever been microfilmed, let alone digitized.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas on how to find anything? I do have my mother's birth certificate from Porto Ceresio, but that is all I have.
You're right, unfortunately. Vital records from Varese are not on the Antenati site or FamilySearch. If they plan on digitizing the files, FamilySearch has said they'll be all done by the end of 2019. Your other options are going there yourself or hiring a local researcher.
DeleteI'm late to the game, but thanks for this tip. My ancestors are concentrated among 3 small towns (pop. between 500 and 2500 each) in the Val Fontanabuona. There is a very short list of surnames in each town, to the point that marriages between the same surname are commonplace. As you say, if you spread your net wide enough, you find that just about everyone is related.
ReplyDeleteThat said, given the often huge latency (30-60 seconds being common) and awkward navigation of the site, I would think there would be an eager market for either media (e.g. DVD) preloaded with the data, or data downloadable in bulk. Once the prototype media were compiled, physical duplication or online access would cost very little. Even the trivial effort of assembling ZIP files of subtrees would be very helpful.
But there is the option to bulk download. See the description of the program GetLinks in the article above.
DeleteHi DiAnn,
ReplyDeleteI have used this tool to download over 100,000 images from my villages in both Antenati and FamilySearch.
All of sudden I am getting nothing in FS as they are loading very small files and they are corrupt. I'm wondering if you have been experiencing the same thing in FS. I have attached a link below for one of my villages as I now move into the church records. Thought maybe you could try and then stop and see what you get as all the files I now get are either 34.1 or 34.4 kb only.
I am a dedicated reader of your blog and have read every entry. I too have employed many of your tools and strategies over my 20+ years of dedicated 100% Italian genealogy.
The link is below for you to test if you can... shouldn't take more than 1 minute and would be appreciated.
Ciao... Zio

Zio, this is a recent change, and I'll have to update this article. FamilySearch has decided we don't deserve this level of access to the ancestral files it's their mission to provide to us. So they have blocked the GetLinks program. I'm disgusted with them for doing this.
DeleteDiAnn,
DeleteThank you for your quick reply... thank god I already had downloaded all of my villages for all their Civil records.
I was saving the Church records as the next phase and ran into this snafu. If you find out anything please update in a post so I can catch it. This had to happen since the 1st of November as that is when I completed my civil downloads on FS.
I hope we can figure out a workaround as this has been a valuable tool... thanks for sharing it.
Ciao... Zio (Mike)
I wrote to the creator of GetLinks on Nov. 29 after a friend told me she was having this problem on FamilySearch. I didn't hear back from the programmer this time. (He updated the program earlier when I told him the URL of the Antenati site changed.) But I didn't realize what was happening till someone associated with FamilySearch told me she was deleting my mention of GetLinks from a Facebook Italian genealogy group.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on this, DiAnn. I had been trying to use GetLinks on FamilySearch with a friend and neither of us could get it to work. This is extremely disappointing and doesn't make any sense to me since they still let you download images individually.
DeleteAnd I also don't agree with that person's deleting of your mention of GetLinks since it is still a valuable tool for Antenati. That's just selfish and petty, in my opinion.
Thank you, Pantera.
DeleteThank you for this update on GetLinks not working on FamilySearch. I am disappointed that they won't allow the use of GetLinks. It would save me a lot of time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your update on GetLinks not working on FamilySearch. I just tried it, and when all my images were corrupted, I came here to find out why. I am disappointed that FamilySearch will not allow GetLinks for downloading their files. It would save me a lot of time!
ReplyDeleteI just hate trying to find an image in Family Search when there are 3,000 images and no way to separate them by years or type. It's an awful interface.
DeleteThank you so much for this information!! I've been able to download information from two communes and it is easier to search once they are downloaded.!!
ReplyDeleteThere's no comparison! Having the whole town at your disposal means you can easily find every relationship in the town. Have fun...I know I am.
DeleteSoftware to download lots of images from Familysearch.org ...
ReplyDeletehttps://forum.ahnenforschung.net/showthread.php?t=152944&page=12
It works perfectly...
Thanks so much. I'm reluctant to put the word out any more than right here or FamilySearch will try to block it. Now I have to remember what I wanted from them...
DeleteGoogle Translate isn't helping much. Can you tell me what to look for on that page?
DeleteI think it's this one - fsdownloader. Yes?
Deletehttps://www.dropbox.com/s/o718xvmxts7dba0/fsdownload.exe?dl=0
I tried to download the fsd.exe file from Dropbox, which I was able to do (see message #122), but I couldn't get the program to extract on my MAC. I don't know if it is only for Windows? Do you know?
DeletePIPA1971, can you let Claire DeLeo know if you are using the German download program on a Mac?
DeleteHi Diann,
ReplyDeleteWorks like a charm. I am now downloading all the church records I needed that I couldn't get when our other product was stifled by FS. Not taking any chances now and this product is blazing fast.
Ciao... Zio
Having all the documents at your fingertips is a gift that keeps on giving.
DeleteDiAnn, I'm trying my first download but I get an error message "erro ao carreger pagina!" Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteI thought it might mean the Antenati site is down, but it's up right now. Make sure you've put a valid URL in the window above the Go! button.
DeleteI found a Windows 10-compatible version of the German program that downloads from Family Search quite well. You log in to your Family Search account, put in a URL for the image collection, choose a download folder, and start the download. Use Google translate for the words you can't figure out. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wr0ykb8pb33vjod/fsd.exe?dl=0
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information,I am going to try this site my problem is I don't know where my 3x Grandfather came from other than Italy. I have no names of parents, church, town Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteMCC, you won't find him until you discover his town. Try to find any ship manifests for him, or naturalization paper, or military documents. The town is absolutely critical. You can also do searches for his last name on Ancestry or FamilySearch and see where the name seems to come from.
DeleteHi Diann. I should have continued to check your blog after my 2017 comments. I need to access some Riveli documents on FS. They have been digitized for a couple of years but only accessible at a Family History Center. Does the GetLinks or the German program currently work to download via Wifi at a FHC? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think the program will work on an FHC Wi-Fi, but will they allow it? At my FHC, they don't give out the password.
DeleteDiAnn, which program are you referring to for the FHC Wi-Fi? Is it GetLInks or the German program? It matters to me as to which type of computer I would bring to a FHC. I mostly use a MAC, but we do have a Windows laptop now that I could bring for the German program. I never had success getting the German Program to work on my MAC.
DeleteGetLinks is no longer compatible with FamilySearch.org, so you'd have to use the German program on a Windows laptop.
DeleteThanks DiAnn.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the German program works either anymore. It used to work for me, but I tried it yesterday and it only downloads about 40 images at once, and then you have to wait 15 min to download more.
ReplyDeleteDrat! Thanks for posting it here.
DeleteHas anyone figured out how to get the subfolders to download using GetLinks on the antenati site? For example: dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Reggio+Calabria/Stato+civile+italiano/Reggio+Calabria/Nati/1892/
ReplyDeleteAt the end of page 6 there are a few supplemental folders that do not download. I've tried doing all years and also the individual year as in the link above. I'm sure you can download each subfolder but finding them in each year and then individually downloading would be tedious. If anyone has had any luck with this, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
Did you put the URLs of the supplemental folders into GetLinks individually?
DeleteI'm sure you can do each one individually. When you're getting multiple years, you'd have to search each year to see which has supplementals and then do all of those individually. That would be tedious.
DeleteYeah, I'm not sure why they did it that way, Mike. It's more the exception than the rule.
DeleteHello! Cant seem to find births from 1896 or marriages from 1920 in the town of Baselice.
ReplyDelete1896 Baselice births are missing. You can assume the book was destroyed by water damage or something else. The town's marriage records online end in 1860 and pick up again briefly from 1931-1942, but 1938 is missing. I'm hopeful that some day they'll add later births and marriages.
DeleteWhen my father-in-law died in France we sent a copy of his death certificate to the town he was born in (Bompensiere, Caltanisetta, Sicily) at the same time we requested a copy of both his and his fathers birth certificates. A Sicilian cousin in London wrote everything for us followed with a call to the office when there was no reply. When we finally received the copies the agent in Bompensiere asked if we could look up a family member that immigrated to the USA. Not sure he understood the size of this country and the fact that I don't speak Italian much less Sicilian. Either way I had a starting point and your link to the site has helped with so much of my documentation. Wish it would go further back in Bompensiere as I would love to know the name of the GGG father but a trip is on the bucket list as our family is still living there. Thanks again
ReplyDeleteI see the available Bompensiere vital records begin in 1866. Disappointing! I had an Italian friend who would go to towns and get me records in exchange for my finding U.S. documents for his relatives. I just gave him what's on Ancestry.com and a Google Maps link or two. That's all he wanted.

Descargador de todas las imágenes juntas (ESP)
Downloader of all the images together (ENG)
Your new instructions on how to download an image from Antenati do not seem to be working anymore. The URL does not change as I scroll through images. Do you have any ideas?
ReplyDeleteI figured out that you can not download an image if you go to the image from a name search on Antenati!
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you for the follow-up. The key to getting the right bit at the end of the URL is to navigate through the pages. If you go straight to a search result, you'll see which page of the book it is, such as 48 of 203. When that happens, you can click the year at the top of the result page to go to the book itself. Then navigate to the page number to get the URL you need.
Deletehello,
ReplyDeletethank you for the tips.
But today I can use the five one.
-When i copy the address of the view witch is in the address bar of my web browser, I have this :
https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua233389/w6yxAp6
-And when i put the IIIF manifest address in the address bar of my web browser i have this :
403 Spiacenti, non hai l'autorizzazione per accedere a questo contenuto.
Sorry, but you don't have permission to access this resource.
How can i do to download a high resolution image ?
Thanks
Yes, I updated section 5 above when Antenati changed things. You may have to refresh this web page to see the updates. You have to take the last part of your URL, w6yxAp6, and paste it into this URL, replacing the word TARGET with w6yxAp6:
Deletehttps://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/TARGET/full/full/0/default.jpg
So, your image is here:
https://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/w6yxAp6/full/full/0/default.jpg
Thank you!!!! I was able to use your fix to download a birth record.
ReplyDeleteThat's excellent news!
DeleteWow, your method of downloading images is spot-on. Previous to this, because of the various changes with the site, I was screen-saving as many as four parts of one document and cropping it all together on a Word document. I was getting results of 8 and 9, but now I get 10s in a tenth of the time. It's going to take me a while to redo many of my hundreds of documents, but for me it's priceless. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYears ago when I was researching at the CT family history center, I took my camera and a tripod and
ReplyDeletephotographed each document on the microfiche screen that I wanted. I asked the woman in charge first
and she said it was OK. This was more than 10 years ago.
I took photos of the document projections with my iPhone, but the film and viewer were of terrible quality. I replaced all the photos I took with crisp, clear images from the Antenati website.
DeleteThe trick you found to download high quality images no longer works. They’ve changed their site organization. The “target” method (https://iiif- antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/TARGET/full /full/0/default.jpg) with appropriate substitution generates an error “The URL can’t be shown”
ReplyDeleteIt works. I've done it several times today and yesterday. You have t REPLACE the word TARGET with the bit at the end of the URL, such as wbBRDWd. The URL with the word TARGET is not a working URL. It's a template.
DeleteMake sure you've done something like this. Here's the page in a book: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12657/an_ua914004/wXp1jp1
DeleteYou copy the last bit, wXp1jp1, and paste it into the template, replacing the word TARGET. That gives you this:
https://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali.it/iiif/2/wXp1jp1/full/full/0/default.jpg
Does that last URL not work for you?
